So much of the ocean is undiscovered. We know about her vast surface, but the rest is a void, surrounded in darkness, unbothered by human activity. There are people brave enough to submit themselves to her without worry, knowing that her high tides can engulf them whole in seconds.
She knows how to defend herself against all who cross her.
If you treat her with care, she will let you pass.
However, if you insult and diminish her, she will ensure you pay the consequences.
A lesson I am still learning.
I dive in and allow the tide to take me on a journey.
I use my whole body to keep myself afloat.
My legs help me travel further.
My arms extend, taking myself further across.
I am calm.
She senses my calmness and allows me to pass.
She blesses my movements with her cold touch.
With time, my body starts to get tired.
She notices.
The tide starts to grab my body, but I am still afloat.
I could give up now and let myself drown in the abyss.
Keep swimming.
My body parts begin to cease communication with each other.
A wave of panic flushes over me.
She senses my fear. It irritates her.
She attempts to get rid of me by engulfing me.
I give up to her.
Her darkness encircles me.
Muffled noise.
My eyes close to enjoy the peace.
I could let go and submit myself to her forever.
I am content.
I am at peace.
I went on this journey to find that.
But she only provided me an illusion of what peace should look and feel like.
I wake up from the abyss and bring myself up to the surface.
I will not let her take me down.
Scattered breath.
Tensed up muscles.
Nevertheless, I push myself to swim towards the shore.
My destination gleams in the distance.
I use the remaining energy to reach my destination.
She acknowledges my determination and pushes me towards the shore.
The shore welcomes me with open arms.
The swash from the ocean gently hits my body, congratulating me on pushing forward.
The sand acts as a warm blanket for my body.
As exhausted as I am, I still have the energy to bring a smile to my face.
I am content.
I am at peace.
I went on this journey to find that.
